District 27 Superintendent
Jennifer CarreónAmbert has been the Community Superintendent for Community School District 27 since September 1, 2018, overseeing 49 schools and six stand-alone 3-K/Pre-K Centers, for a total of 55 sites, and approximately 45,000 students. Prior to being appointed as Superintendent, she served as the Director for Teaching and Learning/Assistant Superintendent at the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) Queens South Borough Citywide Office (QSBCO), overseeing a team of Instructional Leads, academic policy, assessment and performance specialists, who support 151 schools. Superintendent CarreónAmbert also served as the Director for New Principal Support (NPS) within the NYCDOE’s Office of Leadership, supporting a team of full-time NPS Coaches, Master Principals and Coaching Fellows, who coach 150 new principals annually.
From 2008 to 2016, Superintendent CarreónAmbert served as the Principal of PS/IS 178Q, The Holliswood School in District 26. Under her leadership, PS/IS 178Q became a five-time New York State Education Department (NYSED) Reward School for outstanding performance and progress, with no significant gaps in achievement, and a four-time CSA Performance Award School.
Superintendent CarreónAmbert possesses a B.A. in English and Master’s Degrees in Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Educational Leadership. She is a graduate of the New York City Leadership Academy and the Cahn Fellows Program for Distinguished Principals at Teachers College, Columbia University, and a member of the New York Academy for Public Education.
Superintendent CarreónAmbert began her teaching career in District 27 before becoming an Assistant Principal in District 28, a mentor principal in District 26, a CSA Executive Board Member and a Cahn Fellows Program Advisor. She also worked briefly in Districts 2 and 30 during her career.
Superintendent CarreónAmbert has two of her own children, who are the light of her life, and she is a proud product of the New York City public school system from grades K to 12, attending schools in Districts 1 and 2, and graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and Performing Arts.
At Community School District 27, Superintendent CarreónAmbert encourages open communication among all constituents, where every family, community member, school leader, educator, and staff member wholeheartedly commits to ensuring next level readiness of ALL students - academically, socially and emotionally in full preparation for college and career; so that we nurture problem solvers and critical thinkers, who are passionate and proactive members of society.
